About the Author

Hi! I’m Char. I’m originally from Vancouver, Canada, moving to Southern California in 2012.

My interests are crocheting/knitting (of course!), drawing anime, painting, crafts, cooking, metal music, video games and tea. I have a sister blog at Oolong Owl, which is all about tea!

I’ve been crocheting since 2002 – I taught myself how to crochet with a booklet I bought from Walmart. My first project was a dishcloth and my first amigurumi was a banana! Later in that year I taught myself to knit, quickly switching to continental style knitting. I ended up doing more crocheting early in my crafting career as I found knitting hurt my wrists more (I later on switched to circulars, which solved this problem).

Around the time I started crocheting, there was little in amigurumi pattern books so I’d purchase Japanese ones and read off the charts, making many amigurumis. I’d often adjust patterns to my liking, most often fixing shaping. In 2008, I started developing my own amigurumi crochet patterns.

On and off I’d pick up knitting again. Sometime in 2010 I started knitting more regularly, learning how to do short rows, cables and lace.

I prefer to make smaller projects like amigurumi, dishcloths, shawls, scarves, hats, and socks. For some reason I struggle to work on large project like sweaters and blankets. As much as I love small projects, sometimes amigurumi can be too quick of a project , so most of my on-the-road projects are knitting projects.

Tools I use:
Crochet Hooks: Boye (purely because of colour), Clover and assorted hooks that I bought from Daiso in gold colour and wood.
Knitting Needles:  Knitpicks Harmony Circulars.
